Jim is spot on.

The room contributes so much to the sound (as much or more than speakers themselves) that you would be foolish to address other links in the chain without going after the biggie.

Not to say the advice of the others isn't good - perhaps that is what you should look at next but....you gotta look into room acoustics first.

Admittedly, spouse approval factor and domestic decorating limits room treatments much more than other improvements but the likely benefits far outweight money spent elsewhere. IMO!!
