I guess I should have been more clear.

The mac is my main computer, it has a separate 500gb drive inside of it that is only used for music. It is not on the rack, it is connected to the DAC via a long USB cable. I control it either by sitting at the computer and selecting songs via iTunes, through my laptop with a program that allows me to control the iTunes remotely, or by using Front Row. My mac does have a screen.

I looked and looked for a higher grade usb cable, but could not find any so right now, I am using a generic usb cable. Is there a better one to be had, and if so, where?

I do have a backup of my computer, including music. I also obviously, have the CDs.
