You didn't say how you ripped and tagged your Flac files.

There are lots of good programs for editing tags. Mp3tag is one. Add the folder(s) containing your Flac files. Then select all the files that say "Rolling Stones" as the artist. Type in "The Rolling Stones"

Or you could try J.River Media Jukebox (free) or Media Center ($ 40). it provides an iTunes-like interface (but with much more flexibility). Secure ripping, support for whatever tags you want to use, powerful tools for editing tags and a UI that lets you use whatever tags you want to browse, sort and search files.

Apple lossless vs. Flac - If you go with iTunes, then ALAC makes sense. However, if you use J. River MJ or MC, you can keep you PC library in Flac and MJ/MC will convert to MP3 on the fly when it syncs with the iPod (or WAVs.)

If you want to play ALAC files on your iPod, then you might have fewer choices for managing your iPod.

You should understand your choices before you settle for iTunes.
