Am I wasting my time?

I have a high-end laptop that goes to an EMU 0202. The majority of the music on the laptop is in mp3 format; about 20% is in FLAC. The sound quality is not as good as my vinyl so I ask, should I even bother continuing with PC audio given that most of the music is in mp3 format?
