This one works ["4.0x1.7mm Coaxial DC Power Plug (2-Pack)] from Radio Shack:

Soldered one to the leads out of an RS 4xAA battery holder and tried to run my 0404 USB off freshly charged NiMH cells. It only ran for a few minutes before giving out, but at least I found that the above connector is compatible--no need to hack the existing switcher supply lead.
