I can comment on quality: if you're going to go compressed, Apples AAC at 128 kbps is 'better' than mp3's at the same bit rate, and Apple also offers 256 kbps AAC downloads (whether or not people care is a different matter). Pricing, obviously, is a matter you can best decide (although do consider iTunes current No. 2 ranking in digital music sales will probably give you decent volume).
