As a (very) independent producer/label of creative jazz music in New Orleans, I find it very hard to keep up with the world of digital distribution. Several of my cds are distributed by CdBaby, who now offer mp3 downloads directly from their site. They initially set the price as the same as the physical cd, which is obviously too high, but I can change it to whatever I like. The question is what they offer the purchaser (the offer the copywriter holder a much better deal than Apple, of course) worth more to discerning listeners than the same material downloaded from iTunes? I'm trying to figure out how much to charge, and as you will read if you click on the link, they claim to offer audio quality to iTunes, but I don't understand the technical jargon enough well enough to know what I am selling. I'd appreciate anyone who can explain the differences between their mp3's and Apple's (and everyone else's), and also if anyone would like to comment on what they would consider a fair price. (For comparison, I sell the physical cd for $14.97 on their site.
