the sounds of the aqvox can be improved (as for the other dacs mentioned). in my case i replaced the clock with a dexa clock. the film caps in the output stage were replaced by dynamicaps. the 7809/12, 7909 regulators were replaced with dexa regulators. no it hasn't become a world beater, but there was a nice appreciable improvement: less splashy, more focussed, tighter without being aggressive. well worth the investment in parts. for info, i only use it via the usb input.
