Jim,
First I would not consider DIY Audio in a class of experts especially in testing.
As I said there and I will say here there are always things outside testing that will aid or hinder a system that makes no sense at all.
Take for instance silver wire. I hate silver interconnects and speaker wire but wind it around a iron or cobalt core and the difference is staggering. The electrical properties or as you DIY Audio guys say Physics between silver and copper are minimal even with the amount of turns we are talking about.
The cost of silver over copper is about 5x. The differential in sound between the two is staggering. Should the product be 5x the cost... should the Crimson Ag be $37,500?
The point is much of what we can do, can be tested. Allot of it can't be tested. Heck I got a ton of degree's but in the end it's my degree in music and over 40 years of playing tons of instruments that helps me design product.
One thing to think about here is this. Steve had great success with a $550 USB cable in his system.
Is this going to make someone elses system that much better? Maybe not... maybe all we learned here was between an iMac 24/2.8GHz and the Crimson Ag is the best it can be.
Probably not... but who cares. It is only one piece of the puzzle.
Thanks
Gordon
