Gang,Look... first off let's get something straight. You can on a PC get great music. It does require sometime and energy.
I pretty much use J River and ASIO for the PC. I do have Foobar but feel that with kernel streaming that the sound is all over the map depending on hardware. I feel J River seems a little more consistent. Also the fact that it's all in one (ripping and play) to me makes it worth the what $40.
Anyway... I am not saying Foobar is bad.
One think that is best said here is that it is sometimes best to look at your drivers installed on your computer. I have seen a drastic improvement in my systems when I use the driver developed by the company rather than the generic one supplied by many of the hardware vendors. This is so true if you are building your own.
Get the specs of the mother board or the add in card, get the chip number and the maker and go to their site and see if they have native drivers for their chips.
If you are having problems with kernel streaming this is sometimes the problem.
I have exspensive transports here and they cannot even hold a candle to the computer systems I have. I have a bunch of both PC's and MAC's and have great results with both.
I do have an SPDIF DAC (Cosine) that is almost identical to the Cosecant and it is not as good on a nice modified transport as compared to the Cosecant.
