I have 2 PC's with pci 0404's. One I use with Native Instruments B4 software and a midi keyboard as a Hammond B3 for church. The other PC has Synthogy Ivory and I use it as a grand piano for church. While the software
(patchmix) is clunky to say the least... it has proven to be stable and very good at 4ms latency that I need for live playing. The sound quality of the 0404 if ok for the Hammond organ pc, passable for the Bosendorfer piano pc.
I bought a Behringer SRC2496 ($129) and bridged the interstage coupling caps. No other mods, just a few minutes of soldering. I run the spdif output of the 0404 into the Behringer at 48k and upsample to 96k in the Behringer. The sound quality compared to the 0404 is dramatically, radically, unbelievably improved. Bigger, deeper, lusher, smoother, much more extension at the frequency extremes, overtones and resonances are worlds better. Sounds like a real Bosendorfer. Best $129 I've ever spent.
