On my system any playback uses 30-50% cpu time, all of it in the kernel. Oddly, on my fiance's system - same chipset! - it uses 5%. With a VIA USB2 PCI card it's more like 60%.

Lots of people have complained to EMU about this already. No idea if it will ever get fixed. EMU is not well renown for their quality drivers.

That said, the next USB card with even remotely comparable features is the $500 Saffire card, which is a little too rich for my tastes atm.
