John S. - Thanks for the very useful information. You mention Studio/Pro Audio having to deal with multi channels requiring greater bandwidth. I know many of the top professional audio companies use firewire, PCI or a cardbus (PCMICA) solution in their pro studio products (Apogee, Digidesign, RME, etc...). Even Creative/EMU use their proprietary CardBus to converter box on the 1616M a more expensive product then the 0404USB. Do these implementations have an asycn capability. When firewire was developed it had much greater capacity then USB 1.0, did the designers allow for this async mode?
I have tired both the EMU 1616M (CardBus) and the 0404USB - the sound is better with the 1616M, whether directly from the analogue outputs or SPDIF.
Does anyone know of modders who upgrade these pro products upgrading power supplies and components?
Thanks
