Is it possible to use an 80gb iPod with iTunes 6 ?

First, thanks to all who responded to my question a few weeks ago about how to transfer files. My question is whether or not the 80gb iPod will work with iTunes 6 (the version bundled with the 60gb iPod; the 80gb iPod is also 5g but does not include an iTunes CD, you are directed to download the "latest version" from Apple). I have heard of an unusual amount of incompatabilities/bugs with iTunes 7, am having no problems with iTunes 6, and therefore have no desire to upgrade. I would like to be able to plug the 80gb iPod, have iTunes 6 recognize it, complete the initial configuration procedure, and ready for use.
