Hi Todd,
I used to share your views on CD burning ( The RealityCheckCD) and CD playback.
About one year ago I began to experiment with my first USB DAC, the Apogee Mini. I was quite surprised that ripping CDs to my hard drive and playing them back with the USB DAC had qualities that surpassed my Reimyo CDP and my Esoteric UX-1. Last June, I purchased a Wavelength Audio Cosecant USB DAC and was blown away with the quality of the sound. At the end of last year I moved up to the Wavelength Crimson USB DAC. I have yet to hear a CD player that I like better than this DAC driven by my MacBook Pro laptop.
Not only do I get better sound, but I have the ability to access all of my CDs.
I learned a tremendous amount from the people in this forum. Check it out.
Todd, there is no going back for me.
