It appears that my previous post was not clear...

hence, I'll try to write things so that people can't read between the lines.

I believe that once a flac file is decoded to wav it is the same (file wise) as the original wav sound it was encoded from.

I'm not saying that one or the other sounds better or worse. I just can't hear a difference between them. That does not mean I don't care about sound quality. It's just that I don't hear a difference on my system with my ears (both wav and flac played through the same SB3). And it's just that I don't have the money to buy the music I want on the original master tape and play it on some well maintained reel to reel player. Life is too short. But I do care about sound quality. That is the reason I don't have mp3's. Even though mp3's can sound pretty good.

If one is concerned about sound quality why bother with CD at all? CD is a caricature of the original recording IMO. And a recording is a caricature of the original performance IMo. So we are stuck with what is affordable and feasible. And I've had a lot of pleasure from vinyl and cd's. And now I'm having a lot of pleasure from flacs through my networked player.

And I'll say this. Computer audio or network delivered audio is as far as I'm concerned: Theoretically at least intrinsically better than CD or vinyl. And IF flac truly does sound worse than the wav it was encoded from...there must be a logical reason for it. Which can in turn be solved. So far I've not seen ONE single reason why flac should sound worse. Once again for those that try to read something into my text that there is not. I'm not saying that because there is NO logical reason for flac to sound worse, that it does not sound worse. No, I'm saying I have not heard a single reason WHY flac is SUPPOSED to sound worse. And I suppose what I was trying to say most of all, is that I enjoy flac tremendously and those that have not tried it should give it a go and decide for themselves.
