I think if you go back and reread, you'll find that Gordon thinks usb is better because there is the possibility of less jitter. Toslink is still spdif. Spdif not good.
Toslink is a good solution for lots of people but that doesn't make it better than usb. In theory, from what I've read in Gordon's writings, usb should always be better.
