Thanks for these suggestions. I agree with you that a phone will have too small a screen, but let me ask further about the iBook idea. If the Mac is near my listening position, presumably it transmits wirelessly with some other device feeding the DAC. Could you describe the full system for me? How long does the iBook run on its batteries? I would prefer not to have a mains cable running across the floor if I can help it and, as mains is such a dirty product (if you believe any of the crap in Cables Forum) I’d much prefer not to have it plugged in if possible.

The iBook solution sounds interesting although there is another snag. It's a big box (compared with a remote) to move from place to place if I’m not sitting in my normal listening position.
