I learned the value of power supplies experimenting using different approaches with my Touch player. A good linear or even strong phone charger quite noticeably cleaned up the sound and lowered the noise floor. I too, use an HD-Plex with mine although I suspected that the Sonore unit at quadruple the investment would likely be superior.
The only part of the review that puts me in a bit of quandary is regarding the ethernet cable. Not only is my computer at great distance from the µRendu, it's on a different floor of the house! The office where the computer is located has built-in shelves so I ran a CAT6 cable up and drilled a hole so that it passes to an attic area above where is spans some distance and enters the listening room. Consequently, it is 60 feet long.
Tell me if I understand your arrangement correctly:
1. One TP-LINK MC200CM Gigabit Media Converter is connected to switch via short ethernet cable. I see NewEgg sells those for about $50 each.
2. The second TP-LINK MC200CM Gigabit Media Converter is located near the µRendu via a run of the Tripp Lite multimode cable (NewEgg sells a 25M run for around $50 as well)
3. Final connection is via another short ethernet cable
If I'm correct, I see that it would run me around $150 plus the two short Ethernet cables to use your arrangement.
