The potential issue with drawing +5V VBUS power from the mRendu USB port to power a USB to S/PDIF converter is not the quality of the power, but rather the amount of current that the USB to S/SPDIF converter will draw from the mRendu's internal regulator. The additional current draw will create additional heat.
I have the W4S uLink on order with an outboard power source - so the uLink will not be drawing it's power from the mRendu USB port.
