Home Computer Audio Asylum

Music servers and other computer based digital audio technologies.

With respect: your assumptions are not the same as

several user's tested experience.

Those Icron models down the chain have been tested and compared to the top of the line model and a (relative) consensus was achieved in stating that the $479 Icron isochronous, converter sounded better: using the same/similar isochronous chip to what's used in some of the Chord devices.

Some of the devices down in the Icron chain don't galvanically isolate, some don't even convert the signal to TCP/IP and/or are not layer2 or USB 3.0 compatible.

In use, some have dropouts playing music at resolutions higher than 16/44
(I have attached a link to the "better" & more similar model to the PSAudio device: & (likely), the "base" model to the PSAudio).
Icron builds these devices for Startech and PSAudio. At the very least, the "special, audio-only" properties of PSAudio's LanRover eliminates 3 of the 4 USB outputs. I do not know what other changes PSAudio has employed ICron to make for them.

MY assumption is that eliminating 3 USB ports in and of itself is a good thing.

Behind his eyes he says, 'I still exist.'"
