Hi,The SonicOrbiter is the name given to the OS of the microRendu AND the same OS that runs on another Sonore product (hardware) that is based on the Qubox mini-computer. That product that is the combination of the Qubox hardware and the SonicOrbiter OS is called the SonicOrbiter SE. (I know that it's confusing).
The Qubox is a small, 2" by 2" or so black square box mini computer that has a couple of USB ports, an HDMI port, & an optical port.
The SonicOrbiter OS that runs on both the microRendu and the SonicOrbiter SE is designed for great audio performance, and has an easy-to-use menu system that allows for several different types of networked server/player combinations that utilize USB output, or Optical.
It differs from the microRendu in that the hardware is an off-the-shelf mini PC, (QuBox).
Cheers,
