I don't know the answer as it is going to depend upon how you use your computer . All I will say is that McAfee succesfully blocked any attempt that I made to control JRiver MC via the Gizmo remote control (linked via my wifi network) on one of my PCs. I had to switch to Norton to fix it even though McAfee was "cost free" being bundled with that PC.
I use another PC now as my dedicated music server and rely upon Windows 10 Defender for that without issue ( so far, fingers crossed). However this computer is never used to access the internet except for the unavoidable Windows updates and for BBC Radio 3 HD live concerts via the BBC player. I feel at little risk from the latter. Downloads are made via the computer with Norton installed so the files are scanned for viruses before being copied to the drive feeding the dedicated server.
