I've had several setups like this including Squeezebox to DAC, AppleTV to DAC, Amazon Fire TV to DAC, Roku to DAC, iPad to DAC, and other 'client' devices in various parts of the house.
These receive streamed content from the Mac in my office (and other content sources) over the network and play them in the room they are in via a DAC, into an amp, and out to speakers.
