Hi actually i read it but i just got that often renderers sound better than pcs.
Personally i think that a stripped down pc with a slim OS is not that different from a renderer.
And can sound quite good.
Actually i have here a 100 USD Pipo X7 (with preloaded Win 8.1 with Bing) that with a usb to spdif converter sounds more or less like my Squeezebox Touch via its spdif out, IMOS of course. And both fine.
The converter is other 150 USD (Melodious MX-U8).
And again personally i think that most of the problems with a pc depend from the connection to the net and OSs .
It is fundamental to keep the pc isolated from the Net and spy/viruses etc. (like a renderer is)
OS choice is important. But good OS are available.
For sure a renderer is more user friendly. It is simpler to operate.
I am about to try the Pipo with an usb dac Hegel Hd10 an compare it to the same dac driven by the Touch via spdif.
Kind regards,
bg
