And I would add that it's rapidly becoming a dead-issue as other high end manufacturers besides Gordon are taking up the cause to improve either USB audio codec, or isolate out the USB bus for improvement.
Or, and likely more importantly, - abandoning the IF.
Wherever Apple goes the rest of the industry follows, and specialty little networked appliance companies are not interested in good sound, - so their USB implementations are going to focus on convenience, at the expense of quality.
The PC industry is rapidly becoming the tablet/phone/single purpose network appliance industry....
Software can only ever be a bandaid on top of crappy hardware.
