RE: Optical?

I use the Optical with my reference DAC, I am also fortunate enough to have another DAC in my system, so I use the SPDIF as well with a second DAC. I use both. Sound is great from both, I think the SPDIF was more smooth and listenable, however at least in my system the Optical had a more lively high end at the upper frequencies. So for day to day listening I am using Optical. Again the music I listen to is not mainstream, so it benefits from a more lively performance, especially at the upper frequencies.

I went with set at 96, keep in mind that will only upsample, it does not mean that it supports high-res content.

DAC kits sound cool, that is interesting, I will look into Audio Note.

Yes if your music is all at CD quality and you like the lossless streaming services then you are all good, no need for a PC. I have a PC in my system, rarely use it myself :)
