Yep, it's a very old hat. Optical USB isolators are out there since at least 10 years. The effects are well known.
You should have also tried the Schiit Wyred. At least you'll get a "hub" and a filter that's not adding extra noise on its own.
I'd also suggest that you clean up your cable mess, before running any further listening tests!
As usual, I'm questioning your measurement capabilities, related results and conclusions.
