I think the PC concept of a general purpose open architecture computer that you can repair, upgrade, expand, change the OS on, and load any software you want on is a geek's dream that the general public never really wanted. The public tolerated it for a while because it was the gateway to the internet. But I think most people are more than ready to move on from desktops & laptops, from dealing with all the crapware and bloatware on a new computer, periodically upgrading operating systems, trying to find the right drivers, keeping their virus definitions up to date, avoiding bundled adware and toolbars, and watching their computer become slow and buggy over time.
I will continue to own traditional computers for the foreseeable future, but I can't wait until my wife and extended family ditches theirs.
