I play 24/192 files on my MacBook Pro running Pure Music via USB into my DAC with no issues. I use memory play so the file in loaded into RAM before playback. Even before I started using memory play I had no issues with only 4GB of RAM. The activity monitor shows that I am far from taxing my system throughput or memory capacity limits.
Maybe you should explore different playback programs. You can get a Pure Music trial for free.
