Windows 8.1 - An everyday setup

Hi there.

Many of you might know that I'm usually running Linux audio projects.
Once in a while I need to work under Windows though.

I'm now in the phase of setting up my Windows 8.1 Desktop PC as
reasonable sounding everyday machine. I haven't really looked
into Windows Audio for quite some time.

Main requirements of my little project:
* I don't want to wreck my Windows with an insane level of optimizations.
* It must be free. ( No - I won't intend to reanimate my old JRMC license)
* No resampling & bit transparent output.
* All audio sources (youtube/foobar/...) shall work without switching anything manually on/off inside the OS.

What I've done so far:

* Foobar as player
* Foobar plugin: RAM-disk
* Foobar plugin: Wasapi - event sytle - towards my RME UCX

* Fidelizer
Workstation level optimization -- least intrusive

So far so good. Sound is quite good already. I like what I hear.
(I'm running a RME UCX hooked up to ADAM A5X speakers btw.)

What's annoying is the manual Fidelzer startup all the time.
What's most annoying is that Fidelizer is changing my browser settings
every 2nd time I miss to untag the "Make Fidelizer your Homepage" box.
Who in the world wants to make Fidelizer his homepage except the guy who's programming it. Anyhow. Even in Workstation mode it's making a worthwhile difference. I'll keep it for the time being.

I think Foobar is still a nice powerful and good sounding piece of software. There's even a RAM-disk plugin available nowadays.

Everything else seems to work fine.
For now all my requirements are fulfilled.

Let me know, if you have this or that easy-to-accomplish tweak in the pocket. As I said, I don't intend to mess around with the system (I hear you FMAK: "By using Fidelizer you already messed around with your system." ;) )

Cheers
SC
