Actually i have only loaded the OS and surfed a little ...
By the way the first SW player that comes to mind is XBMC that must have some relationship with Linux ?
I do not have big interest in high rez files
Mainly cd rips. Better ... only cd rips.
I have also tried Openelec and it works also, but Ubuntu is a real OS and then more flexible.
For instance with Openelec i do not know if any drivers support for usb dacs is available.

P.S. i have found also this

its target being "Multimedia enthusiasts"
but again better a full function OS i guess
