Any failure of hard disks in your NAS ?

Hi and sorry for the strange question
But reading the very interesting article posted here on HDs actual reliability in real working situations i have started to wonder how the MTBF figures declared by the manufacturers must be taken
When i read that an HD with a half million hours of MTBF lasts only for an average of 4 years when used in a NAS ... i have to divide the MTBF by 15 in order to get the actual working life in hours ?
Moreover such a "rule" seems not to applicable to all brands and models
For some i have to divide by 50 ...
Thanks for any kind advice.
Kind regards,
bg
