IMHO, understanding properties of a material is fundamental to understanding its principle of operation and proper application. Ask any components engineer.

Interesting comment from some earlier posts considering a number of USB cable makers use ferrite chokes on their cables, including a handful of audiophile USB cable manufacturers.
The snubbers on the iFi Mercury are custom-made metal oxide ceramic RF noise silencers.... A fancy name for ferrite chokes!
Ferrites = metal oxide ceramics in various compounded mixes to achieve specific electrical characteristics.
