I cannot say that is an appreciable difference. Of course, I mostly use my own DAC design(s) and with headphones for the Z2, vs. Laptop. I will have to try it on my "big" system (which is actually pretty small these days).

If you install Onkyo HF player, Hibiki or other special Players on a sufficiently recent version of iOS you can do pretty much the same. And you can play Spotify/Tidal on iPhone to an external USB DAC.

You need a Camera Connection Kit and this is NOT an officially supported feature, so Apple may delete it at some point in time, but for more than a year the functionality for using USB DAC's has stayed in place across several iOS revisions.
