From what you said, it is not clear if it is a Tidal issue or a sound driver issue.
If the correct MB sound drivers (Realtek?) are installed and the laptop works with a dac driven by a media player, then it appears like Tidal.
Audio for W8.1 in my systems is no different from other versions of Windows, only that it may appear to have found drivers from the built-in pack. Look at the hardware section and see if you see any exclamation marks. Go to updates and you may also find optional software updates.
