First I guess that iTunes ripped CDs in lossy format, it does it by default unless you changed settings.
BUUUUUT, SB is set to run most efficiently on FLAC files. If you choose other formats you are shooting yourself in the foot.Lastly, to be sure that the source of your problem does not lie in the transmission from the NAS to SB, play couple of good sounding FLAC files directly from the memory card plugged to SB.
