You could ALSO use the optical output from the headphone jack.

The Apple system is to make that output 'dual use' so you'd need an optical adaptor on the computer end. It LOOKS like a 3.5mm headphone plug, only out of plastic. These adaptors are very inexpensive and SOME optic cables come with 'em at no additional charge.
