Ah, but how does the Fiio sound? numbers are just numbers. You can buy a $75 "camcorder" that does 1080P or a $10K Red, or Canon that does 1080P. Wanna guess which ones get used in Hollywood movies? You can also buy a Radio Shack DAC that does 24/96 for $40.
The Pono is designed by Ayre. It has a Sabre DAC chip, balanced output capability, Ayre filter technology, and a powerful discrete component analog output stage. They have demoed them using Audeze headpones.
You are correct about it being the age of great DAPs. My Sansa gets replaced in December when the Pono arrives. Great sound is on the way.
