Home Computer Audio Asylum

Music servers and other computer based digital audio technologies.

Don't waste time

buying monitors, keyboards, mice, software, and hours and hours of stress and back and forth with "experts," - who have played around with hacks and tweaks trying to turn a non-audio device into an audio one, through a path of arguing about minutiae.

There is nothing that you can do with a computer alone that will allow you to build hi-rez digital files from your LPs. And, - based on your number 1 goal of listening to Internet Radio, (which is low quality): the investment that it will take to do hi-rez will be much higher.

Go get a Bryston BDP-2, or a Sim Audio Mind, or even a used Squeezebox Touch, - spend your time with your music, - burn your CDs and set up your music for the future. Then once you get set up with a system - you can move up or on.

For example, if you think that you might want to have music in different rooms, - then a NAS (hard drive/network attached storage), attached to your router will/can be accessed by a number of devices. So, - later, - you have the option of moving to a computer, or a different/better streamer, or something else...

There are some folks here who are using 3 Squeezeboxes, some folks have mixed environments, with a Squeezebox and a couple of computers. Some have 2 different streamers and a computer.

Start small, start cheap, - invest in music first.

Where people had paid to see inside,
For entertainment they watch his body twist
Behind his eyes he says, 'I still exist.'"
