Regulated AC

It is not really a question of 'regulating' AC except in 'backwards' utility power supply areas where the voltage can vary by a large margin, say +-10% 0r more. It is now a question of AC supplies being heavily polluted by domestic and industrial appliances and machines, often containing SCRs. These create a large number of harmonics on top of the basic 50 or 60 Hz AC sine wave, with a thd of up to 5-6% in cities. The dirty AC supply can transfer into, or intermodulate (create more harmonics) with the signals in the audio chain and be heard.

Hence the need for 'AC' improvements of various kinds to stop or remove this broad spectrum intereference.
