After listening to a few line level recording on the Zoom H4N, I decided it was unusable, way too much noise. I sold the H4N and ordered a Sony PCMM10. The reports I found said it does a good job on recording line level. I will probably build a selectable pad box for this as well, because I liked setting level this way. The PCMM10 should arrive in 2 days.
I am trying to get a simple work flow. I like being able to use the portable recorder with no computer connection and then dump the wav file(s) to the computer. Having one file per LP side is fine with me. I'd like to make a script to generate mp3 files for some players and perhaps convert to flac and add album metadata.
