Except that they _are_ computers. From the photos I've seen, they use off-the-shelf motherboards. From their literature, it sounds like they most likely run Linux. In the photo above, it they've installed a sound card on a riser coming off the motherboard. One of the photos I've seen showa a SOtM card. The green 3.5mm jack in the photo above is stereo analog out from an onboard audio chip.
