Home Computer Audio Asylum

Music servers and other computer based digital audio technologies.

I use a Dell laptop....

It used to have XP, now Windows 7. I don't use it for anything else, there's no other software loaded but JRiver. Output is with USB direct to my DAC.

I've never had a problem with it, music is played from an external USB drive.

I will freely admit that I've never compared to another playback system - something like a dedicated or purpose built music server. However, the playback of LP's I've recorded or CD's that I've ripped doesn't seem to have suffered from the process.

In other words if you can buy a laptop for $200-300 and it does what you want, then maybe that's all you need.
