I do not know much about either but ...

there are so many folks working with these kinds of devices and some quite enthusiastic that I am trying to learn more about it. The Pi's I2S output seems like a good start as long as one can isolate it from the DAC. I have done nothing but read some accounts of other's exploits.

I am a bit of a PC partisan due to MQNPlayer but would love a new and simpler approach.
