I think it depends on the probability of failure for the specific drive. Are larger drives more likely to fail? You still have to have backups for each drive regardless of size. However, if a large drive fails, it will take a lot longer to make another backup of a 6-TB drive compared to a 2-TB drive. On the other hand, the more drives you have the more failures you might also experience. It really boils down to whether larger 6-TB drives have greater probability for failure than smaller 2-TB drives.
