No, I'm not using a shielded USB cable. I decided to see how a cheap one would do (not so good as it turns out). I'm going to try to rearrange my space so I can use a shorter cable. Actually, the cable with my laptop works fine, even plugged in. My problem is at the PC end. I asked about the hum issue a few posts down but I may try to resurrect the thread.
