In Reply to: Quality DAC for mobile listening - I just don't get it. posted by carcass93 on July 23, 2012 at 13:50:37:
I use Etymotic In Ear headphones that cut out a huge amount of outside noise - on planes, trains, buses, walking near traffic, or in bed (wife can't hear the music).
The quality of sound is thus relatively unaffected by the outside environment, leaving me to still appreciate the best sound possible from Ipod > Headamp > Etymotic. I always use 44.1khz wav files, even though it reduces the number of albums that can be held on the Ipod.
I have tried, but am easily irritated by low resolution MP3 files.
Next step is a mobile dac/headamp with Ipod or Android as the digital source - just waiting for a couple of new products to be launched (haven't liked the options available to date).
Everybody reacts differently, but for me higher resolution mobile capability is essential for better enjoyment of music.
Cheers
Frank
