...we have Android based iDevice wannabes but nothing profoundly innovative from a consumer perspective.
The Android Problem: There are dozens of Android based device models of all shapes and sizes from several companies and there are plenty of incompatibilities among the various apps across all of those fragmented platforms. And then there's "Proprietary Android" vs "Open Source Android". Some manufacturers have created their own versions of Android which further fragments the market and creates more confusion and incompatibilities.
Even worse, if you buy an Android based device chances are very good that in a year it won't run the latest Android OS, or the latest Apps. As a consumer, you're screwed. Even the three year old iPhone runs the lastest iOS and the latest coolest Apps.
It doesn't pay to be an Android independent developer, literally. But even with Apple's policies on Apps in the App Store, developers are making fists full of cash.
Oh BTW, the Adobe Flash / Apple war is over. HTML5 which is standards based has won. The late Steve Jobs predicted the death of Flash 5 years ago. Even Android won't be getting Flash moving forward. Adobe laid off some 750 workers a few months ago and is now creating tools for HTML5.
