Anybody know how to copy a CD with a Macbook Pro running OSX?

I want to make a backup of a Gold Disc that I have, so I can play the backup disc and store the original. I used to be able to do this on my Window XT based PC, but for some reason I can't on my Mac. I use the disc utility to make a disc image, then copy the disc image to a blank disc. Whether I use a CDR or a CDRW, neither of my players can play the songs. One of them recognizes the songs on the CDR and trys to play them. Even though it shows which selection is playing and elapsed time, no sound is produced. My other player sees nothing on the CDRW, and although is 'sees' information on the CDR is displays the word 'data'. It shows elspsed time, but again no sound is produced. I'm stumped. The file types on the discs are .aiff files, which I believe are the same file types as on the original disc.
Ay ideas?
Thanks!
